Last night, Moe and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. A huge milestone neither of us saw coming so soon. It still blows my mind to see how we've been able to sustain our relationship not only as parents and friends but overall life partners.
Typically, we go out to dinner to celebrate the occasion but this year we wanted to do something a little different. We hired a private chef to come into our home and cook a 5 course meal for our entire family. It was the best idea and I wish we would've thought about this sooner.
Selecting someone to enter our space was a big deal for us. We knew we wanted someone who had plenty experience, someone who was familiar with our favorite cuisines and someone who came highly recommended. That's Chef Matt. Apart from beating Bobby Flay, Winning Chopped and working at some of my favorite restaurants in the tri-state area, Chef Matt is incredibly talented in his craft and super personable. Prior to our dinner we spoke on the phone to determine the menu, share any dietary restrictions/allergies, etc. From the initial phone call we knew he was the right fit to cook for our family.
Here's a quick overview of the menu.
1st. Oxtail croquettes with gruyere, sauce robert and black truffle.
This was a great way to start the meal. Fluffy balls of oxtails drenched in sauce robert served with a celery root purée. Expectations were high after this dish.
2nd. Tuna ceviche with persimmon, citrus and Thai basil.
Fresh tuna tiradito served with candied ginger and yuzu. This dish was Peruvian inspired, something Matt specializes in. This was my absolute favorite!! I loved it so much that I drank the leftover leche de Tigre from the bowl. I'll be dreaming about this dish for years to come.
3rd. Ricotta cavatelli with lamb ragu and parmesan.
Eating this was like eating cheesey pillows of goodness. The lamb was tender and complimented the pasta perfectly. Finished mine and ate the little bit my daughter left on her plate. I couldn't bare to see any of this deliciousness go to waste.
4th. Wagyu short rib, heirloom carrots and chirimoya
This was a beautifully seared short rib served with tender carrots and a decadent glaze.
5th. Bread pudding with toffee sauce.
Last but not least came dessert. Holy mother of bread puddings!! Never have I ever tried such a tasty pudding like this. It was served with a toffee sauce, hazelnuts and whipped cream. The best way to end the meal.
Matt made Spaghetti and Nonna's meatballs for the kids. (Also exceptional!)
If you guys follow me on social media then you know I'm typically the chef in my own house. Therefore, having Matt in our home cooking for us on our wedding anniversary was incredibly special. From cooking the delicious food to the great conversations, I feel so honored to know him. I cannot wait to hire him on our next event.
