2017 Highlights / Visiting Morey's Piers

It's almost 2018!! Can you believe it? This year just flew by. Last night I was cleaning out my photo album in my computer and noticed hundreds of photos from places my family and I visited this year that were (for some odd reason) never published. I will admit as fun as this year looked for us, it wasn't all rainbows and butterflies. We were going through hard times and at some point things got out of my hands and I couldn't keep up with my personal life and blogging life. That's probably why so many events weren't recorded here on the blog. I'm happy to share them now :)

If you're not following me on social media (which you should be @nytrendymoms) then you might not know that in 2017 we purchased our very first home, traveled to so many of my dream locations and met so many incredible people along the way but most importably.... we're currently expecting a baby! I know, it's crazy but I'm so happy it finally happened after so many failed attempts. That's how I know 2018 will be amazing!

& what better way to say goodbye to 2017 then by sharing all the places we visited during 2017 that I didn't end up posting. Today I will share our experience visiting Morey's Piers (3501 Boardwalk, Wildwood, NJ 08260).

¡Es casi 2018! ¿Puedes creerlo? Este año simplemente pasó volando. Anoche estaba limpiando mi álbum de fotos en mi computadora y noté cientas de fotos de lugares que mi familia y yo visitamos este año que nunca (por alguna razón extraña) no publique. Debo admitir que este año no fue todo arcoiris y mariposas. Estábamos pasando por tiempos difíciles y en algún momento las cosas se salieron de mis manos y no pude seguir el ritmo de mi vida personal y bloguear. Esa es probablemente la razón por la que tantos eventos no se registraron aquí en el blog. Estoy feliz de compartirlos ahora :)

Si no me sigues en las redes sociales (@nytrendymoms), es posible que no sepas que en 2017 compramos nuestra primera casa, viajamos a muchos de los lugares de mis sueños y conocimos a tantas personas increíbles en el camino. pero más importante ... ¡actualmente estamos esperando un bebé! Lo sé, es una locura, pero estoy tan feliz de que finalmente haya sucedido después de tantos intentos fallidos. ¡Así es como sé que 2018 será increíble!

Best Top Knots For Fall

My high school years were all about top knots. There were cool back then and apparently are still cool. Now more than ever we've been seeing people in Hollywood, Bollywood and on the streets of NY rocking the look. Ever since Beyonce posted a shot of her with a messy top knot on her instagram I've been shook! Today I will be sharing a few great ways to rock the top knot trend this Fall.

One super cool way to rock the look is by applying bangs/or fringe. I am always so hesitant when it comes to cutting my hair so I love the idea of applying faux bangs to achieve a look. I own the side swept Hair2Wear from HSN in dark brown but I also love this one here. Braids are another way to spice up an old top knot recipe... 

I newly discovered this Wen anti-frizz gel which would be ideal for this hairstyle. Its flexible to work with and at the same time holds throughout the day. Top knots are fun for any occasions if done right of course. I hope this post inspires you to create your own top knot look.

Treadmill And Tequila

Last week I attended the Treadmill And Tequila workout class alongside one of my favorite dj's/fitness gurus, Hannah Fallis Bronfman at Barry's Bootcamp. After an amazing sweat session we enjoyed a few cocktails curtesy of Don Julio. I mean, who wouldn't want a low calorie cocktail after a 60 min workout?

Life Update

Hey Trendsters!! I cannot believe it's October 4th already! It's been awhile since we last chatted and I have a quick life updates for ya'll. 

My house renovation finally started and I couldn't be more excited. We are midway in the process and it seems like its taking years to finish up. I've gotten so many messages from you guys asking to do a house tour, to share my tile selections, living room decor, etc. I try to share as much as I can via snapchat and instastories as it's more organic and in the moment that way.. so if you want behind the scenes make sure to follow me on instagram ( @nytrendyoms) and on snapchat (JohnnybellSan). Believe me, I want the renovations to be done as much as all of you want to see the final results. You know what they say.. 'good things take time'.

A few days ago I was very ill. Runny nose, never ending migraines, fever, terrible stomach pain, and the list goes on. Didn't know what it was and didn't even bother checking with my doctor. I'm one of those people who doesn't like medications, hospitals or doctors. I believe that with time, a little rest, Vapo Rub and some good ol' chicken soup (made by grandma, of course) everything will be ok.

I'm a little better now but I'm laying low until I reach my full 100%.

In better news.. I was finally able to bring my computer to our hotel in which we're staying till the reno is done. I have so many photos/stories to share in the next few days that have just been waiting to be published.

Gardenia

Being without gas for over one month after purchasing our new home hasn't been too good on our belly's or on our wallets. Eating out for breakfast, lunch and dinner can get quite boring and expensive after awhile especially when there's four of us. Realistically theres only so much you can eat. I get sushi one day, Indian, Dominican, Italian, and Mexican another.  It almost seems like a routine and I'm not too fond about routines. So when Gardenia invited me over to try their food.. I accepted.

I first heard about Gardenia a few months ago when I was still in the process of purchasing my house. To my surprise house hunting was more time consuming than I thought. Cutting to the chase, I didn't have time to visit until now and since I love sharing cool restaurants who serve delicious food.. here is one. Gardenia.. has Happy Hour Monday-Saturday from 4PM-6:30PM. It is located on 64 Drowning St. New York, NY 10014.

Gardenia is known to be a modern Latin-accented Mediterranean restaurant serving intricate cocktails in a bright airy setting. More like.. all my prayers answered!

From the outside it looks like an airy restaurant perfect for first dates. After entering it becomes so much more. I love how open and delicate the space is, how the plants hang off the middle of the room and how it's equally as beautiful during the day and at night.

Back To School Fashion For Kids

I remember growing up ‘back-to-school’ was one of my favorite times of the year. There was just so much excitement about getting new clothes and new school supplies (i’ve always been a sucker for stationery). I love it when each year my kids feel the same excitement I felt when I was younger. I allow them to handpick items they love such as graphic tee shirts and pieces with pops of colors. Yet, I also pick versatile pieces like dark jeans, a preppy blazer and white sneakers. Pieces that can be worn over and over again are pieces that should be in everyone’s closet including children.

In The Shadow

Lately, the days feel longer and the nights feel shorter.
Never have I ever wanted Summer to be gone like I do right now.
Our home 'renovation' is taking longer than expected and I continue to delay my (life) plans until everything is completely set and done.. but I don't think I can take it any longer.

My initial plan was to finish the renovation in my new house and enjoy the fresh start that goes along with it. All while being re-inspired to create new content since I desperately need it. Of course nothing ever goes as planned and I've come to notice that in life you just have to do things without overthinking. Without over-planning. & without waiting for things to be handed to you on a silver platter.

I've been saving lots of content (for later) only because I'm huge on visuals/photography and at the moment my life is anything but. Of course I've also become an expert procrastinator this past month. My house is currently upside down, boxes everywhere, 80% of my clothes are put away, we've been eating out every single day because our gas is still not available and every thing just seems out of place.. including my head. The lack of content has cost me to loose so much faith in myself and I'm putting a stop to this. right. now! I know that if I wait any longer I will not only loose you but also loose myself.

Enough is enough.
I'm here.
& I'm not going anywhere!

Best Pizza in NYC?

When &Pizza invited me to their new NoHo (28st street btw Broadway and 5th) location, I didn't hesitate. The new shape and well though out ingredients made me very curious as to how different a pizza can taste.. and let me tell you, it's different alright!

After doing a little research I found out that &Pizza wasn't as 'new' as I though it was. &Pizza is actually a fast growing chain in the DC area. With dozens of news outlets naming them the Best pizza in DC, Best late night eats (DC), Best gluten-free menu (DC) and many more. 

New Family Vlogging Channel

I've finally decided to expand our family brand and start an actual vlogging channel. Over the years my life has been super overwhelming due to all the topics I am able to cover and that sometimes can be a big problem. I wanted to wait until my girls were of age to post and download their own videos which would eventually be a huge help for me. This mean new kid friendly content for y'all.

The new Youtube channel is called FamilyFlowerr (with two rr's) and my girls will be posting kid relatable content. For now we're just uploading old videos which can give you a perspective of what to expect in the future. Now your kids can subscribe and be apart of our adventurous lives. Subscribe here.

New Liquid Lip Velvet by Burberry

Michael, my new mail man just knocked on my door and brought me an unexpected little package.

I could not wait to share what was inside with all of you.

Burberry was sweet enough to send me three of their new #LiquidLipVelvet lip products. The collection includes 14 new shades that go from soft to vibrant plum. These shades are matte cream colors with a comforting whipped texture that last up to eight hours.

SimplyScrub Review

Moving to a new house and unboxing all of my belongings has taken longer than I thought. It's true what they say  "you don't know what you have until you move".

While unpacking, I came across a few goodies that were sent to me last month for review. I've been testing these 100% organic scrubs (made in USA) and I am happy to share my thoughts on the brand SimplyScrub.

Skirt Steak with Pistachio Chimichurri Sauce

 

Servings: 4 | Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

·         1 (1 ½ to 2lbs) skirt steak

·         Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

·         ½ bunch parsley

·         4 cloves of garlic

·         1 cup of Wonderful Pistachios Roasted & Salted

·         ½ cup olive oil

·         1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, or to taste

I don't normally share anyone else style on here but I am utterly obsessed with this outfit Brigitte Macron wore yesterday. Brigitte wore an Alexandre Vauthier red wool crepe jacket from the Fall-Winter 2017/18 collection and a full-on black top, pants and shoes. This look will most definitely be up on my inspiration board this Fall. 

I bought A House!

Here's the main reason of my absence. 

If you follow me on social media then you probably already know, Moe and I bought our very first house last week!! I didn't want to mention anything sooner because initially we were going for a different house and at the end it didn't workout. Therefore, this time around I wanted to wait until I received the keys to tell all of you. Believe me when I say that I was itching to give hints but didn't want anything to fall apart. 

Since then I've been living and breathing Pinterest. A tool I never really used before. I've been using Pinterest to get inspiration for the two main rooms that I will be renovating.. the living/kitchen space and bathroom. It's not going to be easy living in the house while renovation is happening but we have no other choice. Although it would be nice to go on a vacation and come back to a brand new space.. ah, doesn't hurt to dream.

Now lets get back to reality... All of our stuff is currently in boxes and its almost impossible to put a decent outfit together. I guess I'll be living in pj's for the next few weeks. Wish me luck!

This months pick was this stunning chiffon maxi dress. I looove this dress so much!! Lately I've been wearing blue more than ever and I don't know why but I dig it. A few of my favorite features of the dress are the shoulder peeks. I know we've been seeing to much off-the-shoulder these past few months and it's nice to see a different approach to the trend. I find this cut of dress fun and girly but also classy at the same time. What drew me to this particular dress was the high-low detail at the bottom as well as the flowyness of it. So perfect for this season!

Welcome back to Walk-the-Walk Wednesday, where the topic is always fashion related.

Many of you were asking me what I wore during my trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. If it was up to me I would've worn denim shorts and a light chiffon top like this one by Moon River all day long. It wasn't too hot where I stayed ( Grand Hyatt in Playa del Carmen ) yet I still couldn't handle the humidity. As you can see my hair did not want to cooperate and it's why I had to do a messy braid.

There's nothing more satisfying than unintentionally teaching your kids good things. I've always been well aware that kids pick up absolutely everything their parent do and say. This is the reason why my husband and I are very careful as to what we do and say in front of the kids. Over the past two years I've been practicing yoga on and off. Yoga helps me in many ways. For example; when I'm having a really tough day I love doing yoga to help me clear my mind. Yoga also helps me with my posture or when I simply need a good stretch. Most of the times I practice yoga when the kids are at school or when the kids are asleep. This is basically the only quite time I get on a daily basis. Although they don't physically see me practicing yoga, they know I do it.

 A few weeks ago my oldest daughter started watching yoga on YouTube. I didn't really think much of it. Just thought she was curious since I talk about it sometimes. A few days later she asked for workout gear. We've always been very athletic, we love running and doing various outdoor activities and enjoy watching American Ninja Warrior. The next thing I knew, she was practicing yoga in our living room. One thing is introducing some type of sport to your children or forcing them to do an activity. Something completely different is when they pick up an activity on their own because they purely enjoy it.

I was shocked and happy, of course. This goes to show... they're always watching!

Happy Mother's Day

I have an unbelievable amount of respect for all mothers. We have thee hardest job in the world. We do it with grace, without complaining and without expecting anything in return. & someone like this should be celebrated every single day. I wanted to personally wish each and every one of you a happy Mother's Day. I hope you all enjoy this day with the super woman in your life.

I really dislike the pressure that comes with gifting a loved one anything, especially mom. You want them to feel like you didn't just buy it, but you thought about them the minute you saw the item. New Updates

I've officially made a schedule for the blog and I couldn't be more excited about it. Yesterday, I shared it on my insta-story and a lot of you guys loved the idea and suggested a few new topics like parent tips, giveaways and more travel. The idea came after I myself started writing a schedule of things to do in my personal life. This resulted in me looking forward to each day as it always turned out to be a productive one. The longterm goal for this new change on the blog is to get more interesting content for you every week. Content that will help you in one way or another. 

The schedule goes as follows; 

Madness Monday: This will be the day I talk all about fitness and a healthy lifestyle. It's no secret that I've been a fitness junkie my entire life. That's part of the reason why I was able to bounce back from both of my pregnancies. I also feel that by dedicating one day a week to writing content about fitness will help me stay in shape/motivated. It's a win, win.

Walk-the-Walk Wednesday: This will be the day I talk all about fashion, share tips, trends, new brands and more. 

Touch-Up Thursday: You guys are probably tired of me saying "When you look good, you feel good" but I believe in this with a passion. Therefore, I'm dedicating Thursdays to one of the most popular topics on the blog, beauty. Each week I will be discussing everything beauty (nails, makeup, skincare, hair, and so much more).

Foodie Friday: I mean, who doesn't love finding new great restaurants in the New York area? I know I do! I'm always eating out with my family and I'm going to fill you in on some good spots around the city. In the weeks to come I'll also be switching it up and sharing recipes, favorite snacks, you name it.  

I'm leaving Saturdays and Sundays open to write about anything. It could be travel, gift guides, giveaways, parenting tips, self motivating content and the list goes on. I'll be sure to surprise you each week.

How To Keep A Healthy Marriage

Moe and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary in December 2017 and I often get asked "What's the secret to a healthy marriage?". The answer is have good communication and great intimacy. 

A few weeks ago, I was robe shopping (yes, that's a thing I do) and came across a brand named Flora Nikrooz. I had never heard of the brand before yet loved every single piece I found. I ended up buying more than a few pieces ( my wallet wasn't very happy about it ) but I was very pleased and so was Moe. My favorite nighttime pieces are light, airy and satin. One of the pieces I bought was this Jules Chiffon Floral Long Robe here along with the same floral print chemise. I got so many questions about the robe after posting it on instagram that I decided to just write a post about it.

I take my night time ritual very seriously. Call me crazy but after showering, wearing my night creams and nighttime wear, I like to apply perfume before making my way to bed. I know it may sound excessive but I can't sleep unless I smell good. Of course, Moe isn't mad about this habit. (Let me know if you'd like me to share my favorite fragrances).

You see, I live for this quote "When you look good, you feel good" & that applies even when you're going to bed. Don't get me wrong, I have my days where I look terrible. & That's exactly how I feel. So, I try to always look my best because it helps me feel my best.

Growing up I was never into Star Wars. As an adult I wasn't able to get into it either. Yet, after becoming a mother and watching my kids read the books.. we're all hooked!

After doing my Spring cleaning last month I was able to get rid of a lot of stuff. Everything but what I intended to get rid of in the first place. I can't seem to let go of all my dark clothing pieces. Getting rid of my black pieces would be like loosing apart of me. I'll let you in on a little secret; when I was 12-13 years old I was full blown gothic. My mother thought I was crazy, poor woman. Black everything (literally). & believe it or not I still own pieces from those times (hoarder, I know). I'm just glad I grew out of it. Now let's keep that between us. 

Adirondack Mountains | Glampinghub

I'm so excited to finally share this post with those of you searching for adventure this Spring/Summer.
 Two weeks ago I visited Wilmington New York near Adirondack Mountains for the very first time curtesy of Glamping Hub. My family booked a stay at a beautiful rustic log chalet cabin facing the Whiteface Mountains. I was also able to share the weekend with my good friends Maria and Daniel. Our objective, to relax.

Stay Motivated

Ugh. I've been stuck in a rut lately and have finally gotten out of it. Want to know how? I put in a good workout this morning. It's insane how good working out can make you feel. Mentally, physically and emotionally.

I've been traveling back-to-back since January. I went from Florida to Bahamas (6 days), then the week after to Miami (3 days), then two weeks after to Orlando (Disney) and then a few weeks after that to Mexico (3 days). I'm not even including all the weekend trips my family and I do (Kalahari, Vermont, etc). I know it isn't an excuse, there truly is NO excuse to not exercising and taking care of your body. Yet, after getting back from my latest trip to Wilmington, NY (near the Adirondack Mountains) I haven't been able to find any motivation to get back on track, none at all. Until today. Ugh. He estado atrapada en una mala rutina últimamente y finalmente he salido de ella. ¿Quieres saber cómo? Hice un buen entrenamiento esta mañana. Es una locura lo bien que te hace sentir hacer ejercicio. Mentalmente, físicamente y emocionalmente.

He estado viajando sin parar desde Enero. Fui de Florida a Bahamas (6 días), luego la semana después a Miami (3 días), luego dos semanas después a Disney World, después a México (3 días). Ni siquiera estoy incluyendo todos los viajes de fin de semana que mi familia y yo hacemos. Sé que no es una excusa, realmente no hay excusa para no hacer ejercicio y cuidar de su cuerpo. Sin embargo, después de volver de mi último viaje a Wilmington, Nueva York (cerca de las montañas Adirondack) no e podido encontrar ninguna motivación para volver a la hacer ejercicios, ninguno en absoluto. I've been raving about Pearls ever since I discovered it last year. Hands down my most favorite Caribbean spot in Williamsburg. I wanted to refresh your memory just in case you were looking for a tropical getaway (in NY). Just stop by this hidden gem for a great island taste, island music and overall a great time. Ruchki da Nozhki / New Nail Salon in Brooklyn

Last weekend my friend Maria and I needed some 'girl time' and ended up visiting this cool new nail lounge in Brooklyn called Ruchki da Nozhki which means little hands and feet in Russian (located on: 381 Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn). From the minute we walked-in it was relaxation mode. From the classical music playing in the background, the soothing color walls, the beautiful succulents around the entire space and the sweet staff. One thing I instantly noticed was the unique scent in the room. It smelled clean and fresh. Certainly not your typical 'nail salon' smell. This is due to each station being equipped with a build-in exhaust system that absorbs fumes, vapor, and nail dust. This was a huge plus for me since I'm always with my daughters. Apart from nails services Ruchki da Nozhki also offers waxing services. & did I mention they also use all natural products.

The first question I received when I sat down for my pedicure was 'What would you like to drink?". & from that moment on I knew it was going to be a good time. My manicure and pedicure turned out better than I expected. & the extra massage wasn't too shabby.

The service was exceptional. I look forward to going back.

Best Way to Pack for a Vacation

Let's be real ladies, I really dislike packing for vacations.. & don't get me started with unpacking!

I just returned from Mexico and packing for my 3 day trip was easier than ever due to the following tricks. If you are subscribed to my Youtube channel then you have already seen this on my cruise vacation video last month. If you're not subscribed.. please do so here. 

I sometimes have OCD when it comes to organizing and just finding things when I travel. This is specially the case if I'm traveling with my family. It's 100 times easier to know what to wear and when to wear it if everything is nice and organized. One of the things I do before a vacation is visit my local pharmacy and buy empty small containers. In these containers I put shampoo, lotions, night creams, cleansers, moisturizer, etc. I love doing this because I don't have to bring along the entire container of each product which can result in overweight luggage.

Am I Having A Spiritual Awakening?

So this is basically what my twitter feed looks like right now. I've expressed myself on snapchat since I feel more relaxed and comfortable on there. Nonetheless, yesterday someone contacted me and asked if I could please write about this on my blog since they were feeling the exact same way and wanted to know how to deal with it. I thought it was something risky to do since I've never opened up on a personal level here. I'm hoping this post helps anyone who is going through a rough time right now.
