My family and I had the opportunity to fly anywhere JetBlue flies and I honestly hesitated in picking St. Lucia. Aside from those who don't have a clue where St. Lucia is, others think of it as the number one honeymoon destination and I now understand why. It was always a place I wanted to visit. Perhaps without kids (I thought). As stubborn women that we all are, I decided to bring the kids along and find things to do with them on the island.
Thankfully, we were able to book a 4 night stay at Capella Marigot Bay Resort (very last minute) then ended up extending our stay even longer than we planned (you'll see why)..
After being in the air for 5 hours we finally arrive in St. Lucia! Driving through one main road with sharp turns isn't the best way to start our trip. We started off fine.. 30 minutes in- the girls barfed twice as the turns can get anyone sick. The very kind driver Gibson, suggested to stop at a known local bread 'shop' which was on the way to our resort.. and if you know me, you know bread is my weakness! Of course I was also concerned in making the girls feel better and getting them something to eat. So we accepted.
#1- The Food/ Beer
For the locals, this is simply freshly baked bread which you eat on the spot with your choice of cheese, butter or both. Think about it.. a little warmness with butter and cheddar cheese.. which melts slightly due to the heat of the baked bread. I'm honestly salivating as I'm typing this! But seriously, this was the best thing I've ever had in a long time! & yes, it was only bread!
There's something about the oven. The fresh ingredients used. The way the gentlemen making it handles the dough. The weather. The lady brushing off the excess flour after they've been cooked for only 10 minutes. The humbleness of the people when we told them how amazing it was. All these elements make this stuff incredible!
Not to be confused with your norm bakery shops that have signs of 'fresh bread' on their windows which have been sitting in baskets for 5-8 hours. This St. Lucia stuff is like crack (not that I've ever tried crack, but you know what I mean). It's addicting!!
We had mentioned to Gibson that we wanted to explore local places, eat at local restaurants, and do things the locals do.. but we quickly learned that locals don't eat out or do much here. A bummer for us because at that moment we knew finding what we wanted was going to be harder than we thought.
Gibson suggested to stop at one of the very few 'local' restaurants to have a little something before driving to the resort.
We had the 'catch of the day' which is quite frankly always, and I mean always.. maji maji.
Something that caught our eye while there was the island beer, Piton. Which is named after the two famous Piton mountains located southwest of St. Lucia near a town called Soufrière.
Piton beer is very light and refreshing. Almost like a Presidente to Dominicans. Good Stuff!

#2- The Weather
A few minutes later we made our way to a viewpoint where we were able to get a glimpse of this breathtaking island. At this point we were already head-over-heels about the island. The weather was 78 degrees, the breeze aired perfect places, and our tummies were half-way full of bread. My ideal arrival in a Caribbean island.
#3- Hospitality
Upon our arrival we received big welcoming smiles, wet towels, refreshing rum tea for Moe and I as well as sweet tea for the girls. The graceful staff chatted with the girls while I checked-in. A few minutes later we were escorted to our suite.
As you see, our room and our balcony view of the bay was a dream. The luxurious Acqua di Parma bathroom essentials made in Italy and exclusively sold at Barneys New York was an unexpected surprise. Not sure how they got the memo about my favorite teabags; Mighty Leaf Tea from California, were stacked on a daily basis in our fully equipped kitchen. A personal assistant 24/7... I mean come on! PERFECTION!
Yet, it was nothing like what we experienced next.
#4- Peace and Tranquility
After freshening up we decided to walk around the premisses of the resort.. HOLY MAGNIFICENT! This place is paradise. No doubt about it. We had only been here for a few hours and we were already in love with this place.
We then took a boat across the bay to a tranquil little beach.

..next thing we knew it became dark out. We went back to our room to freshen up and head to dinner.
When we arrived our beds were newly made and ready for us to tuck ourselves in. For a mother of two, these small details count the most.
One of our favorite parts of each day was having the hotels complementary breakfast. They offered all types of delicacies such as local jams, fresh juices (guava, passion fruit and orange), cheeses, etc. Normally, this is something I don't have much time to make before work and school. This I appreciated very much.
At breakfast we would always feed the birds as they would fly around the balcony while singing their tunes.
#5- Adventure
With all things NY Trendy Moms, we do things spontaneously! We're never prepared, nor dressed properly for anything! With that being said, the second day in St. Lucia we planned on having a relaxed day driving around, drinking Piton, listening to the birds and perhaps petting some goats or something.. of course nothing happened as planned.
The second day my family and I ended up on a four wheeler excursion for two hours. Don't ask me how it happened, it just did. What I can tell you is that we had an amazing time cruising around the island and learning about the history of St. Lucia.
Initially the crew did not want to ride with two minors as the allowed age is 8 years and over. After begging and signing a waver noting that we were 100% responsible if anything were to happen, they agreed to guiding us on the tour.

-Did You Know-
-Bananas from St. Lucia are only exported to the UK.
-Locals prefer green bananas over ripe ones.
- Sugar cane was St. Lucia's main resource until 1945 then bananas took over.
An hour and a half in- we stopped at a remote point which overlooked the Atlantic Ocean to drink ice cold natural juices that the crew brought. It was a sweet surprise! The area we overlooked was guarded due to all the endangered species on the island. We didn't get a chance to see any endangered animals but we did catch a glance at some goats, lizards, horses, birds and all types of insects.
In those two hours off roading, we stopped and talked to locals (who were very friendly), we rode through rivers and stopped at an old sugar mill.

The water wheel showed in the photos created electricity for the sugar mill in the old days. This was something Leanne and Zareena were fascinated by. A few minutes later Leanne fell asleep and we had to end our tour. When she woke up we asked her why she fell asleep and she answered 'because the breeze felt good'.. of course!
I want to thank the crew for being extremely helpful and informative.
I highly recommend them next time you're in St. Lucia. Check them out here.
This experience was one of my favorites! Even better than skydiving.
